Originally titled 'Perspective of Nudes' and published in 1961, this seminal volume marked a transition in Bill Brandt’s career from his early social documentary photography to the surreal, distorted aesthetic for which he became internationally recognized. Brandt utilized a wide-angle glass lens—typically intended for architectural police work—to capture figures in domestic and coastal settings, creating elongated, dreamlike forms that challenged traditional perceptions of the human body. The work was heavily influenced by his exposure to European surrealism and the writings of Man Ray and Brassai.

The publication is widely considered a cornerstone of mid-20th-century photography, praised for its technical audacity and its departure from conventional portraiture.
