Carlo Aymonino/Aldo Rossi

Published in 1977 by A.D.A. Edita as part of the Global Architecture series, this monograph examines the architectural philosophies of Carlo Aymonino and Aldo Rossi. It emerged during a pivotal moment in Italian architecture, focusing on the Neo-Rationalist movement that sought to reclaim historical urban forms against the backdrop of modernist planning. The volume provides a technical and theoretical exploration of their collaborative and individual works, notably their shared interest in the relationship between architecture and the collective memory of the city.

The book serves as a vital record of the discourse surrounding the design of residential blocks and urban infrastructure in Italy during the 1970s. Through Pierluigi Nicolin’s curation, the work captures the aesthetic precision and rigorous structural logic that defined the practice of both Aymonino and Rossi. It was received as a significant academic resource, documenting a critical period where the influence of these architects began to extend well beyond Italian borders into the broader global architectural conversation.
