Where it came from
Published in 2001 by Universe Publishing, this self-titled monograph serves as a definitive survey of the industrial designer's early career and aesthetic philosophy. During this period, Rashid was rapidly gaining international recognition for his 'sensual minimalism' and his commitment to democratizing high-quality design through mass production, particularly in plastic furniture and consumer goods.
The book captures the vibrant, organic, and often blob-like visual language that defined his work at the turn of the millennium. It documents his approach to material innovation and his belief in designing for the digital age, a perspective that made him a polarizing but influential figure in contemporary industrial design. It was well-received by the design community as an essential catalog of the pop-modernist movement that dominated design discourse in the early 2000s.
