Karin Kneffel

Published by Schirmer Mosel, this monograph serves as a foundational catalog of the German painter Karin Kneffel's early career. Kneffel, a student of Gerhard Richter at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, developed a distinctive aesthetic during the 1990s characterized by her precise, hyper-realistic depictions of domestic interiors, fruit, and architectural spaces. This publication documents a period in which her work began to gain significant traction within the contemporary art market, reflecting the transition from her academic training toward the mature, evocative style for which she is now internationally recognized.

The volume captures the intent behind Kneffel's artistic practice, which frequently interrogates the nature of perception and the tension between illusion and reality. By focusing on mundane objects often obscured by translucent layers or dramatic lighting, the designs and images selected for this book highlight her mastery of technique and her ability to imbue stillness with narrative complexity. At the time of its release, the book was well received by critics for providing a structured overview of her evolving technical rigor and her growing influence on the German figurative painting tradition.
