Pedro, Carlos (and Carlos) and Omar

Pedro, Carlos (and Carlos) and Omar was published in 2006 by The Lyons Press as a humorous exploration of the trials and tribulations of being a dedicated fan of the New York Mets. Adam Rubin, a veteran sports journalist who covered the team extensively, crafted this work during a period when the franchise was actively rebuilding its identity. The book captures the specific cultural atmosphere of Shea Stadium, focusing on the quirky personalities and the enduring, often masochistic loyalty of the fanbase during the mid-2000s.

The design and narrative approach reflect Rubin's background in beat reporting, aiming to bridge the gap between serious statistical analysis and the anecdotal folklore that defines baseball fandom. By centering on the interplay between three distinct characters and their experiences with the team, Rubin sought to capture the camaraderie found in the bleachers. The work was received primarily as a niche sports memoir, appreciated by local readers for its authentic depiction of the 'Mets spirit' rather than as a broader cultural commentary on the sport itself.
