Priorities in health

Priorities in Health was published in 2006 by World Bank Publications as a core output of the Disease Control Priorities Project. The volume was created to synthesize vast amounts of epidemiological data and economic analysis, providing policymakers in low- and middle-income countries with evidence-based strategies to improve health outcomes. It was born out of a collaborative effort between the World Bank, the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization to prioritize cost-effective public health interventions.

The editorial work, led by Dean T. Jamison and his colleagues, was designed to be a definitive reference for global health reform. The content focuses on the 'best buys' in health—interventions that offer the highest impact per dollar spent. Upon its release, the book was received as a seminal text in international development circles, widely cited for its role in shifting the discourse toward prioritizing measurable health outcomes and sustainable financing in global health infrastructure.
