Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2002 by the California Composers Consortium, Cats To Corelli represents a niche collaborative project centered on the musical culture of the San Francisco Bay Area. The album serves as a thematic collection that juxtaposes holiday compositions with contemporary arrangements, aiming to highlight the versatility of local ensembles including the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, The Bay Brass, and members of the San Francisco Symphony.

The production sought to blend traditional classical motifs with a distinctly regional identity. By commissioning various arrangements and performances from prominent local musicians like Lorene R. Spain, the consortium intended to capture a sophisticated, localized spirit of the season. The reception of the recording was largely limited to regional classical circles and those interested in the specific output of the consortium, establishing it as a modest, community-focused contribution to the holiday discography.
