Where it came from
Released in 2015 on the AOR Heaven label, 'I' serves as the debut solo project from Dennis Churchill Dries, best known for his long-standing role as the bassist and vocalist for the melodic rock band White Sister. The album was born out of a desire to revisit the polished, synthesizer-heavy sound of the 1980s AOR movement, blending contemporary production techniques with the classic rock sensibilities that defined Dries’ earlier career.
The album features songwriting that leans heavily into the hook-driven, atmospheric style associated with the West Coast rock scene. Dries handled much of the instrumentation and production himself, aiming to capture a nostalgic yet vibrant sound. Upon its release, it was received primarily by a niche audience of melodic rock enthusiasts who appreciated its adherence to the genre's traditional song structures and lush sonic layering.
