Where it came from
Jengloth is a death metal project originating from the Indonesian underground scene, released by Brute! Productions in 2016. The project draws its thematic inspiration from the Jenglot, a cryptid-like figure in Indonesian folklore associated with mystical rituals and occult traditions. The music serves as an abrasive exploration of these localized legends through the lens of extreme metal, aiming to capture a sense of primal dread and regional mythology.
The album's design and artistic direction reflect the raw, DIY aesthetic common within the Indonesian brutal death metal subculture of the mid-2010s. Brute! Productions, a label known for fostering extreme sounds in the region, utilized stark and visceral imagery to mirror the sonic intensity of the recording. Upon its release, it was received primarily within niche extreme music circles, appreciated for its adherence to the technical and guttural standards of the genre.
