Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2002, the self-titled debut album by Jennifer O'Connor marked the emergence of a distinctive voice in the indie-folk and singer-songwriter scene. Recorded during the early years of her career, this collection of songs established her reputation for introspective, guitar-driven storytelling and a raw, earnest vocal delivery. It serves as the foundational document of her musical aesthetic, characterized by an intimate production style that prioritizes lyrical clarity.

The album was released on Kiam Records, a label founded by O'Connor herself. This decision to self-release allowed her to maintain complete creative control over her vision, setting a template for her long-standing commitment to independent music production. While the album flew under the radar of mainstream commercial success at the time, it was recognized by critics and fellow musicians as a solid entry in the acoustic-leaning indie movement of the early 2000s, helping to cultivate a loyal, dedicated audience for her subsequent work.
