Jolly Roger

The 1995 self-titled album by Jolly Roger emerged from the mid-nineties underground independent music scene, a period defined by the DIY ethos where artists bypassed traditional major labels to maintain complete creative control over their output. As a self-released project, the disc lacks the promotional backing of corporate distribution, instead relying on the localized reach of grassroots tape trading and early internet music forums that were beginning to gain traction during this era.

The aesthetic and musical direction of the record reflect the eclectic experimentation common to regional independent acts of the mid-nineties, often blending raw production techniques with eclectic genre influences. Because the release was not backed by a formal record label, details regarding the specific graphic design process or the identities of the illustrators remain largely undocumented, characterizing it as a true artifact of the era's autonomous underground production.
