Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1998, this album features the Corvus Laurencij-kuoro, a choir associated with the historic St. Lawrence Church in Vantaa, Finland. The recording was produced by the Pyhän Laurin Kuoro Ry, a local association dedicated to preserving and performing the liturgical and historical musical traditions tied to the medieval stone church, which serves as one of the oldest buildings in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

The collection, titled Vanhoja Pyhän Laurentiuksen Lauluja, serves as an archival project focused on regional ecclesiastical heritage. The selection of works reflects the choir’s mission to honor the site's history through choral arrangements that resonate with the church's architectural and spiritual context. It was produced as a niche cultural contribution for congregants and enthusiasts of Finnish choral music rather than for commercial distribution.
