Where it came from
The 2007 Canadian 4-dollar coin featuring the Parasaurolophus was minted as part of the Royal Canadian Mint's Prehistoric Creatures series. Issued during a period of heightened public interest in paleontology, these coins were designed to showcase Canada's rich fossil heritage, specifically focusing on species discovered within the badlands of Alberta and the surrounding regions.
The coin was struck in sterling silver and featured a selective colorization process that was gaining popularity among collectors at the time. The design focused on anatomical accuracy, aiming to present the duck-billed dinosaur in a vibrant, artistic light that appealed to both numismatists and natural history enthusiasts. Upon release, the series was well-received for its educational value and the high quality of its minting technique.
