5 Kreuzers - Hieronymus von Colloredo (12th Jubilee)

This 1782 silver 5 Kreuzer coin was minted under the authority of Hieronymus von Colloredo, the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. It was issued to commemorate the twelfth anniversary of his reign, a period marked by both Enlightenment-era reforms and significant tension between the ecclesiastical administration and the local population. These coins served as both circulating currency and official propaganda, reinforcing the Archbishop's temporal and spiritual legitimacy in the Archbishopric of Salzburg during the waning years of the Holy Roman Empire.

The design follows the traditional numismatic standards of the period, featuring the ornate heraldry of the Archbishopric on one side and a portrait or commemorative inscription on the other. Like many coins commissioned by Colloredo, who was a patron of the arts and known for his rigorous administrative style, this piece reflects the aesthetic constraints of 18th-century Austrian minting. It was received by the public as standard coinage, though its commemorative nature gave it a distinct status compared to the common circulation issues of the era.
