Where it came from
11-Banme no Neko wa Nene is a shojo manga series created by the artist Miki Tori, originally serialized in the late 1980s. Published during a period when Japanese manga was diversifying its storytelling to include more nuanced, character-driven narratives, this series follows the life of a cat named Nene. The work reflects the period's interest in the bond between pets and their human companions, blending humor with the gentle, observational tone characteristic of slice-of-life storytelling from that era.
Miki Tori, who is well-regarded for his versatile illustrative style and wit, designed the series to focus on the expressive nature of its feline protagonist. The artwork is characterized by clean lines and emotive character designs that were intended to appeal to readers looking for lighthearted, heartwarming entertainment. Upon its release, the series was received as a charming entry in the vast landscape of pet-themed manga, valued for its ability to translate everyday domestic interactions into engaging episodic adventures.
