1st Issue Special #1

1st Issue Special #1 was published by DC Comics in 1975 as part of an experimental anthology series. Conceived during a period of creative transition for the publisher, the series was designed as a showcase for potential new titles, with each issue featuring a standalone story centered on a different character or concept. The intent was to test the market's appetite for new intellectual properties without the immediate commitment of launching a full monthly book.

The inaugural issue introduced the character Atlas, a hero created and illustrated by the legendary Jack Kirby. Kirby brought his signature kinetic energy and grandiose mythic sensibilities to the project, aiming to establish a powerful, sword-and-sorcery archetype within the DC universe. While the series was intended as a springboard for ongoing titles, critical reception was mixed, and the experimental nature of the anthology led to the series being cancelled after thirteen issues.
