3-Minute Bodyguard Yoko-chan #1

3-Minute Bodyguard Yoko-chan #1 is a quintessential example of the shonen-style gag manga that gained traction in Japanese markets during the late 20th century. Produced as a lighthearted action-comedy, the series centers on the titular character, Yoko, whose supernatural or high-stakes protection services are humorously constrained by the three-minute time limit suggested by the title. The narrative structure draws heavily on the tradition of monster-of-the-week tropes while subverting them through fast-paced, slapstick character interactions.

The character design reflects the vibrant, expressive aesthetic typical of the era's weekly serializations, focusing on dynamic movement and exaggerated facial expressions to convey comedic urgency. Created as a brief, accessible entry point for younger readers, the series was received as a charming diversion within the broader landscape of manga magazines. It occupies a niche spot in collecting circles today, valued primarily for its role as a representative work of period-specific humor and visual storytelling.
