Where it came from
Adam Strange #3 was published by DC Comics in 2004 as part of a limited series written by Sam Humphries and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards. The series served as a modern reimagining of the classic 1950s space adventurer, placing the protagonist in a more cynical and gritty narrative framework while maintaining the core premise of a man teletransported to the planet Rann.
The design of this issue leans into a gritty, cinematic aesthetic, with Edwards utilizing a distinct, textured art style that contrasts sharply with the bright, optimistic visuals of the original Silver Age stories. Upon its release, the series was noted for its attempt to ground pulp-style science fiction in psychological realism, receiving general praise for its moody atmosphere and the innovative panel layouts that define the Rannian landscape.
