Adventure Comics #446

Adventure Comics #446, published in 1976, arrived during a transformative era for DC Comics as the industry navigated the transition from the Bronze Age toward more character-driven narratives. This issue is notable for its feature of the Aquaman title, which had been moved to the pages of Adventure Comics following the cancellation of his own series. The creative direction during this period often reflected the editorial push to maintain legacy characters by integrating them into anthology-style publications.

The issue is particularly remembered by collectors for its cover artwork by Jim Aparo, a definitive artist for the era whose distinctive, atmospheric style brought a sense of weight and cinematic tension to the DC stable. Aparo’s work on this title was well-regarded for its consistency and readability, balancing the dramatic requirements of superhero storytelling with the specific visual demands of underwater environments that defined the Aquaman mythos.
