Where it came from
Adventures of Superman #599 was published by DC Comics in early 2002 as part of the overarching 'Ending Battle' storyline. This arc serves as a pivotal moment in the series, where Superman faces a coordinated psychological and physical assault orchestrated by his greatest enemies. The creative team, including writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Mike S. Miller, focused on high-stakes conflict, pitting the Man of Steel against a gallery of foes who aim to dismantle his personal life and reputation.
The issue is characterized by a darker, more intense tone typical of the early 2000s era of DC editorial direction. Visually, the work reflects the transition toward a more modern, cinematic aesthetic in comic book art. While not as historically significant as milestone anniversary issues like #600, it remains a notable chapter in the late-modern age of Superman, often sought after by collectors aiming to complete the sequence of events leading into the conclusion of the 'Ending Battle' saga.
