Adventures of the Outsiders #44

Adventures of the Outsiders #44 was published in 1987 as part of the long-running series featuring the team established by Batman. The title emerged from the darker, more unconventional sensibilities of the 1980s superhero landscape, focusing on a group of meta-humans operating outside the traditional structures of the Justice League. By the time this issue was released, the series was navigating the shifting editorial landscape of DC Comics, which sought to balance gritty character-driven narratives with the established continuity of their shared universe.

The issue fits within the latter half of the series' run, which featured contributions from writers and artists tasked with maintaining the team's distinct identity amidst frequent creative rotations. The art style of this period aimed to capture the kinetic, team-oriented action that defined the Outsiders, leaning into the dramatic visual storytelling prevalent in mid-eighties comics. It remains a representative example of a series that provided a testing ground for experimental team dynamics and non-traditional hero archetypes during a transitional era for the publisher.
