Akuyaku Reijō Nanode, Dekiai Nante Irimasen! #1

Akuyaku Reijō Nanode, Dekiai Nante Irimasen! originated as a light novel series written by Mitsuki Serina, which gained popularity on the Japanese web fiction platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The manga adaptation of the first volume was serialized starting in 2020, following the trend of the 'villainess' subgenre in isekai fantasy. This narrative style subverts traditional tropes by focusing on a protagonist who navigates the social and political pitfalls of their role as an antagonist, often seeking to avoid the romantic entanglements typically forced upon such characters by the original plot.

The character designs and illustrations for the manga adaptation were handled by various artists associated with the publisher, intended to capture the ornate aesthetic typical of high-fantasy shōjo and josei demographics. The visual approach leans heavily into opulent, period-inspired costumes and expressive character archetypes to emphasize the protagonist's internal conflict and her attempts to maintain composure amidst the unwanted attention of other characters. The series has been received as a lighthearted addition to the genre, praised for its focus on the protagonist's humorous and determined efforts to remain independent.
