Where it came from
Released in early 1992 by Marvel Comics under their Star Comics imprint, ALF #44 represents one of the final entries in the long-running series based on the popular NBC sitcom. The comic chronicled the extraterrestrial protagonist's life with the Tanner family through a lens of slapstick humor and suburban satire, capturing the cultural phenomenon that defined the late 1980s. By the time this issue was published, the series had begun to wind down alongside the waning original broadcast presence of the show.
The creative team for the series typically leaned into the comedic, cartoonish visual identity established by the television character's puppet design. Writers and artists for this issue maintained the established tone of the franchise, focusing on Gordon Shumway's ongoing attempts to navigate Earth culture while causing domestic chaos. As part of the broader Star Comics lineup, it was aimed at a younger demographic, intended to extend the life of the television show's brand through serialized, episodic narratives.
