Amazing Fantasy #15

Amazing Fantasy issue 15, published in August 1962, serves as the historic debut of Spider-Man. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, the issue was released during a period when Marvel Comics was experimenting with more relatable, flawed protagonists. Ditko's distinct, angular aesthetic helped distinguish the character from the more idealized heroes of the era, while Lee’s narrative approach focused on the personal anxieties and everyday struggles of teenager Peter Parker, which represented a significant departure from established comic book tropes.

The decision to include Spider-Man in the final issue of the anthology series Amazing Fantasy was a gamble, as the title was slated for cancellation. The character's instant resonance with readers defied expectations, leading to an immediate surge in popularity that ultimately secured his own dedicated series. Over the decades, the issue has become a cornerstone of modern pop culture and is widely regarded as one of the most important artifacts in the history of the medium, cementing its status as the centerpiece of many premier comic collections.
