Aquaman #45

Aquaman issue #45 was published by DC Comics in June 1969. This issue emerged during a transitional period for the character, occurring amidst the Silver Age of comic books as publishers began experimenting with darker themes and more complex character motivations. The story, titled The Planet of the Sea-Kings, continued the long-running series' exploration of Atlantis and the internal politics governing Arthur Curry's rule, a hallmark of the title's narrative focus during the late 1960s.

The issue features artwork by Nick Cardy, whose contributions to the Aquaman series are widely regarded as definitive for the era. Cardy's clean, dynamic linework and ability to depict the fluid environment of the ocean helped distinguish the book's aesthetic from the more earthbound titles of the time. The cover and interior art remain highly sought after by collectors for showcasing the distinct visual style Cardy brought to the DC catalog, cementing his legacy as a pivotal illustrator of the character's mid-century adventures.
