Aquaman: Time and Tide #1

Aquaman: Time and Tide #1 was published by DC Comics in 1993 as the opening installment of a four-issue prestige format limited series. This miniseries was commissioned during a period of significant creative transition for the character, intended to redefine Arthur Curry's origin and his complex relationship with his mentor, Vulko. The story sought to ground Aquaman in a more gritty, modern context that mirrored the shifting aesthetic preferences of 1990s comic book readers.

The series was written and illustrated by Dan Jurgens, a prominent figure in DC Comics at the time, known for his definitive work on Superman. Jurgens employed a polished, muscular art style that emphasized the character’s regal yet burdened nature. Upon its release, the series was well-received by fans and critics for its focused character development, effectively serving as a bridge between older interpretations of the character and the more contemporary, hardened iteration that would define the DC Universe throughout the decade.
