Baki no Wa! - Baki wo Kataru Joshikōsei-tachi #1

Baki no Wa! - Baki wo Kataru Joshikōsei-tachi is a spin-off manga series that serves as a comedic homage to Keisuke Itagaki’s legendary martial arts franchise, Baki the Grappler. Launched in the mid-2010s, this series shifts the focus away from underground arena combat to the perspective of high school girls who are obsessed with the intense, hyper-masculine world of the main series. By centering the narrative on the fandom experience itself, the manga provides a satirical look at how the over-the-top physicality of the original characters is perceived by outsiders.

The series is illustrated by various artists working under the supervision of the Akita Shoten editorial team, maintaining the aesthetic of the original manga while incorporating modern moe art styles. The intent behind the design was to contrast the brutal anatomy of Itagaki’s fighters with the lighthearted, school-life tropes common in seinen spin-offs. It was received as a niche meta-commentary, appealing primarily to long-term readers of the Baki franchise who appreciate self-aware humor that references the iconic, exaggerated art style of the source material.
