Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in December 1962, Batman #152 emerged during the Silver Age of comic books. This era was characterized by a shift toward more science-fiction-inspired plots and the editorial direction of Jack Schiff, who steered the title toward accessible, standalone adventures that often featured lighthearted or gimmicky threats rather than the darker tone established in later decades.
The issue features the cover artistry of Sheldon Moldoff, a long-time collaborator of Bob Kane whose style defined much of the Batman look during the mid-century period. Inside, the story 'The Batman of Planet X' was written by Dave Wood and illustrated by Moldoff, tapping into the prevailing trend of bringing extraterrestrial or futuristic concepts into classic superhero narratives, a creative choice that remains a quintessential example of the quirky, imaginative storytelling common to the early 1960s DC catalog.
