Batman: League of Batmen #1

Batman: League of Batmen #1 was published in 2000 as part of the broader DC Comics landscape following the conclusion of the No Man's Land crossover event. Written by Doug Moench with art by Brett Blevins, the series explores a narrative arc where Batman assembles a team of international heroes to track down the villainous group known as the Batmen of All Nations, who have become targets in a series of murders. This project served as a direct continuation of themes established in earlier Bronze Age stories, specifically reviving the concept of international counterparts to the Dark Knight.

The creative direction sought to lean into the legacy of Batman's global influence, emphasizing a more tactical and team-oriented approach than the typical solo detective stories of the era. The aesthetic reflects the high-action, detailed linework characteristic of late 90s and early 2000s DC house style, aiming to provide readers with a sense of scale and global stakes. Upon release, it was received as a nostalgic yet fresh expansion of the Batman mythos, praised for its attempt to connect disparate historical threads of DC continuity into a coherent, high-stakes mystery.
