Bidaisei, Tsukinami Yosuga no Kaidan #1

Tsukinami Yosuga no Kaidan, or The Monthly Strange Tales of Yosuga, emerged as a specialized contribution to the late-twentieth-century Japanese horror manga tradition. This inaugural issue was published to capitalize on the growing fascination with regional folklore and urban legends, presenting a serialized anthology format that allowed different artists to explore eerie, atmospheric narratives centered around the fictionalized setting of Yosuga.

The design of the series relied on a distinct, moody aesthetic characterized by high-contrast ink work and evocative character designs intended to unsettle the reader. While the specific creative teams behind these anthology issues often shifted, the editorial direction prioritized a sense of creeping dread over visceral violence. Upon its release, the series found a modest but dedicated audience among enthusiasts of atmospheric supernatural manga, serving as a gateway for many readers into the wider landscape of independent horror publications of the era.
