Big Comic Zōkan #592

Big Comic Zōkan is a long-running Japanese seinen manga anthology published by Shogakukan, intended to serve as a sister publication to the flagship Big Comic magazine. These seasonal or special-edition zōkan issues were historically conceived to showcase experimental works, serials that required longer formats, or themed collections from established mangaka. The design philosophy of the magazine has always leaned toward sophisticated, mature storytelling, often featuring realistic art styles and introspective narratives aimed at an adult male demographic.

Issue #592 fits into the long history of Shogakukan's efforts to maintain a platform for established industry veterans and emerging artistic talent within the gekiga tradition. The curation of these issues typically emphasizes a blend of historical fiction, political commentary, and grounded character studies. Over the decades, the magazine has maintained a distinctively minimalist and professional aesthetic, prioritizing the readability of complex serials over the flashy cover art often found in other manga periodicals.
