Bizarro: Year None #1

Bizarro: Year One #1, published by DC Comics in 2015, emerged from the publisher's 'DC You' initiative, which sought to emphasize character-driven storytelling and creative freedom across its superhero lineup. Written by Heath Corson with art by Gustavo Duarte, the issue was designed as a lighthearted, comedic limited series that leaned into the absurdist nature of the character. The creative team aimed to juxtapose Bizarro's disjointed, backwards logic against the more grounded reality of a road-trip narrative, intentionally veering away from the darker tones prevalent in other DC titles at the time.

The reception to the series was largely positive among critics who appreciated the departure from the typical Superman mythos. Gustavo Duarte’s distinct, minimalist cartooning style was frequently highlighted as a perfect match for the surreal comedy of the script. By exploring Bizarro’s efforts to define himself outside of the shadow of his progenitor, the issue established a self-contained, humorous tone that resonated with readers looking for a reprieve from the publisher's more serious ongoing storylines.
