Bondage Fairies: Zannin Shimai #1

Bondage Fairies: Zannin Shimai #1 emerged from the underground manga scene in Japan during the late 1980s. Created by the artist Teruo Kakuta, known under the pen name Teru, the series became a notorious example of the ero-guro subgenre. It was crafted during a period of burgeoning interest in transgressive adult manga, intentionally pushing societal boundaries with its surreal, dark fantasy aesthetics and explicit themes.

The design of the series reflects a distinct shift toward the highly stylized, grotesque, and often unsettling character work that defined Kakuta's career. While the series garnered significant controversy and was widely regarded as transgressive, it eventually achieved a cult status among international collectors of alternative manga. The work is frequently analyzed for its subversive take on traditional folklore motifs blended with extreme adult content.
