Bonkura Onmyōji no Oniyome #12

Bonkura Onmyōji no Oniyome, authored by mangaka Yūki Asagi, emerged within the landscape of Japanese seinen manga as a blend of supernatural folklore and romantic comedy. The series revolves around the unlikely domestic life of an incompetent onmyōji, or spirit medium, and his formidable demon bride. It is rooted in the tradition of the 'yōkai' genre, which has long fascinated Japanese readers by blending mundane, everyday domestic struggles with the eerie presence of the supernatural world.

The design and artistic direction of the series focus on contrasting the protagonist's bumbling, relatable human frailty with the sharp, otherworldly aesthetic of his wife. As the series progressed toward its later installments, including issue 12, the narrative shifted from episodic supernatural encounters toward a more focused exploration of the couple's evolving relationship. Readers have generally received the series well for its balanced approach to humor, maintaining a lighthearted tone even while navigating the complex rules of traditional Shinto-inspired spirit lore.
