Bugs Bunny #45

Bugs Bunny number 45 was published in 1954 as part of Dell Comics' long-running Bugs Bunny series, a staple of the Golden Age of comics. These issues were produced under the Looney Tunes license to capitalize on the massive popularity of the theatrical shorts released by Warner Bros. during the 1940s and 50s. The comic provided a way for audiences to engage with the characters beyond the cinema screen, utilizing the established visual shorthand of the animation department.

The creative process for these Dell titles often involved Western Publishing staff who adhered to strict internal guidelines to maintain the personalities established in the animation studio. The art style mirrored the clean, expressive lines of the character sheets used by animators, prioritizing recognizable poses and slapstick pacing. While these books were created primarily for younger readers and were viewed as disposable entertainment at the time, they have since become significant artifacts documenting the transition of iconic cinematic archetypes into the print medium.
