Where it came from
Cable number 17 was published in 1994 as part of the ongoing Marvel Comics series centered on Nathan Summers, a character introduced during the heightened intensity of the X-Men line in the early 1990s. This specific issue arrived during a period of transition for the series, reflecting the editorial push to integrate Cable more deeply into the broader mutant mythology while establishing his role as a tactical, battle-hardened leader.
The issue features art by David Perrin, who captured the gritty, high-contrast aesthetic typical of the era's superhero titles. The narrative focus on Cable's complex lineage and his struggle against the legacy of the virus that defined his early years resonated with readers who appreciated the darker, sci-fi military tone that defined the title at the time. It remains a representative example of the mid-nineties Marvel house style, characterized by detailed character designs and an emphasis on kinetic, combat-oriented storytelling.
