Captain Marvel Adventures #117

Captain Marvel Adventures #117 was published in February 1951 by Fawcett Comics, appearing during the twilight years of the Golden Age of comic books. By this time, the character of Captain Marvel had already begun to face significant legal and market pressures, most notably the protracted copyright infringement litigation initiated by National Comics Publications, the predecessors to DC Comics, who argued that the character was a derivative of Superman.

The issue features the iconic art style associated with the Fawcett house aesthetic, overseen by editor Wendell Crowley. At this stage in the character's publication history, the stories often leaned into more surreal and whimsical narratives as the industry shifted toward different genres. The visual presentation reflects the classic bold, high-contrast ink work that defined the Fawcett era, aiming to maintain the character's broad appeal to juvenile audiences amidst a changing cultural landscape that would soon see the demise of the original Captain Marvel line in 1953.
