Where it came from
Cherry Poptart #13 was published during the mid-1990s as part of the long-running underground adult comic series created by Larry Welz. The series originated in the 1980s, serving as a satirical homage to the cheesecake and good-girl art genres while positioning its titular character as a rebellious, sex-positive protagonist within the countercultural comix scene.
The aesthetic of the series, including issue #13, leans heavily into the exaggerated, cartoonish style emblematic of the underground movement. Welz, who acted as the primary creative force, utilized the format to explore transgressive humor and social commentary. The work was received primarily within the niche market of alternative comics, gaining a cult following among readers who appreciated its irreverent blend of classic comic tropes and adult-oriented themes.
