Choking On Love #2

Choking on Love #2 is part of a niche underground comix series that emerged during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This movement was characterized by its raw, often visceral exploration of suburban disillusionment and dysfunctional relationships, serving as an aesthetic counterpoint to the more polished mainstream superhero comics of the era. The series was designed to lean into the subversive, lo-fi sensibilities of independent alternative comics, emphasizing a stark visual language that prioritizes emotive storytelling over technical precision.

The illustrations for this series are credited to the creator's distinct minimalist style, which aimed to evoke a sense of voyeuristic discomfort in the reader. Upon its release, the issue was received primarily within the small press and zine-culture scenes, where it gained a modest but dedicated following for its unflinching take on romance and human frailty. It remains a document of the era's DIY publishing spirit, representing a time when independent creators utilized xerox-friendly artwork to distribute personal narratives outside of traditional distribution channels.
