Where it came from
Classic X-Men #43 was published by Marvel Comics in February 1990 as part of a long-running series dedicated to reprinting early X-Men stories with updated framing sequences. This specific issue reproduces the content of X-Men #86, originally released in 1974, which features the team battling Sentinels in an adventure written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Werner Roth.
The framing material for this reprint was written by Ann Nocenti, with cover art provided by Steve Lightle. Lightle was renowned for his elegant, detailed style during his tenure on the X-Men titles, and his work here was designed to bridge the gap between the Silver Age aesthetics of the original story and the more contemporary sensibilities of the late 1980s Marvel landscape.
