Darkhawk #38

Darkhawk #38, released in 1994, serves as the final issue of the original Darkhawk solo series published by Marvel Comics. Created by Tom DeFalco and Mike Manley in 1991, the character Chris Powell was designed to tap into the darker, more introspective tone of nineties superhero comics. The series concluded its initial run during a period of significant editorial restructuring at Marvel, as the publisher moved away from its expansive list of solo titles launched during the speculative boom of the early decade.

This concluding issue was written by Danny Fingeroth with art provided by Andrew Wildman. The narrative aimed to wrap up the ongoing mystery surrounding the Raptor amulet and Chris Powell’s dual life, offering a sense of closure to readers who had followed the character through his membership in the New Warriors and various crossover events. While the series did not sustain long-term solo viability, it is remembered by collectors as a distinct artifact of the mid-nineties comic market, representing the end of a specific experimental era for the Marvel imprint.
