Where it came from
DC Comics Presents #55 was published in March 1983 as part of a long-running team-up series that paired Superman with various characters from across the DC Universe. This specific issue features the Man of Steel working alongside the Swamp Thing, a departure from the more traditional superhero team-ups typical of the title. The narrative was crafted during a period when DC was exploring atmospheric storytelling and expanding the tonal range of their monthly anthologies.
The issue was written by Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn, with artwork by Dan Spiegle. The design and creative direction were aimed at bridging the gap between Superman's high-flying sci-fi adventures and the darker, swamp-based gothic horror associated with Swamp Thing. The collaboration was generally regarded as a solid example of the series' ability to blend disparate genres, providing a grounded, investigative mystery that showcased the contrasting sensibilities of the two protagonists.
