Where it came from
Deadpool #6, published in 1997, is a pivotal installment in the character's first ongoing solo series, scripted by Joe Kelly and illustrated by Ed McGuinness. This issue arrived during a transformative period for the character, as Marvel sought to solidify Deadpool's transition from a derivative villain into a complex antihero capable of carrying his own title, blending dark humor with genuine emotional stakes.
The art by Ed McGuinness, characterized by its dynamic, exaggerated anatomy and expressive character work, helped define the modern visual language for Deadpool. This specific issue is frequently cited by fans and critics for its contributions to the character's development and its role in cementing the meta-narrative style that would eventually become the hallmark of the Deadpool franchise.
