Die Frauen von Manara #1

Die Frauen von Manara, known internationally as the Manara Erotica series, showcases the distinctive illustrative style of Milo Manara, a master of Italian erotic comics. This series was curated to compile Manara's short stories and character studies, which were originally produced throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Published in the German-speaking market by Schreiber & Leser, the collection was intended to present Manara's sophisticated, highly detailed line work to a wider audience, focusing on his frequent depictions of idealized female protagonists.

The aesthetic of this series draws heavily from the tradition of European adult comics, emphasizing anatomical elegance and flowing, cinematic paneling. Manara is celebrated for his precise technique, which balances erotic themes with classical composition and historical costume details. Upon its release, the series was received by critics as a benchmark for erotic graphic storytelling, noted more for its artistic draftsmanship and influence on the medium than for its narrative complexity. It remains a staple for collectors of European graphic literature.
