Doctor Who #23

Doctor Who #23 was published by Marvel UK in 1980 as part of the long-running Doctor Who Weekly series. During this era, Marvel UK was expanding its reach by translating the complex television mythology into a serialized comic format, providing fans with original adventures that bridged the gaps between televised serials. The publication served as a vital touchpoint for British science fiction fandom, capturing the spirit of the Fourth Doctor's tenure.

The issue features artwork and storylines characteristic of the title's shift toward more mature, action-oriented narratives under the editorial guidance of the time. The creative team aimed to maintain the whimsical yet precarious tone of the show while utilizing the visual freedom of the comic medium to depict extraterrestrial landscapes that were often beyond the budgetary constraints of the BBC's production studio. Upon release, it was well-received by a dedicated readership that valued the continuity and depth these expanded narratives provided to the Doctor Who universe.
