Where it came from
Dr. Tomorrow #2 was published in 1993 by Valiant Comics as part of the publisher's expansion into experimental, high-concept superhero storytelling. The series was designed to explore the complex narrative possibilities of a time-traveling protagonist, fitting into the shared Valiant Universe where editorial cohesion and continuity were central tenets of the brand's early success.
The character was created by Bob Layton and illustrated with the stylized, kinetic aesthetic characteristic of 1990s independent comics. While Valiant sought to compete with the major houses by emphasizing tight writing and interconnected character arcs, Dr. Tomorrow occupied a niche position, appreciated by enthusiasts for its attempt to integrate intricate sci-fi tropes into the broader Valiant continuity.
