Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken - Yūsha Avan to Gokuen no Maō #16

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken - Yūsha Avan to Gokuen no Maō serves as a prequel to the classic 1989 manga series Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. This spin-off, which began serialization in 2020, explores the formative years of Avan, the legendary mentor and hero. Written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Yusaku Shibata, the series was conceived to expand upon the lore of the original saga by detailing Avan's initial battles and the origins of his mastery, providing long-time fans with deeper insight into his complex character arc.

The art style designed by Yusaku Shibata aims to honor the aesthetic established by Koji Inada in the original series while incorporating modern dynamic paneling and refined character designs. The release of issue 16 continues the narrative focus on the escalation of the conflict between Avan and the dark forces threatening the world. It has been received as a faithful expansion of the Dragon Quest universe, praised by readers for its ability to maintain the high-stakes, adventurous tone of the original work while standing independently as a compelling heroic epic.
