Dylan Dog #29

Dylan Dog #29, titled 'La cara della belva' (The Face of the Beast), was published in Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore in February 1989. Created by Tiziano Sclavi, the series emerged in the mid-1980s as a revolutionary force in Italian fumetti, blending traditional horror tropes with surrealism, social commentary, and dry, existential humor. This issue reflects the series' commitment to exploring the darker complexities of the human condition through its investigator of nightmares.

The interior artwork for this issue was provided by Giovanni Freghieri, whose distinct, gritty, and atmospheric style became a hallmark of the series. Freghieri’s work on this installment was celebrated for its ability to balance the gruesome imagery required by the horror genre with the melancholy tone that defines Dylan's character. Like much of the series from this era, it was received as a sophisticated departure from standard pulp adventure comics, solidifying Dylan Dog’s place as a cultural icon in Italy.
