Earthboy Jacobus #1

Earthboy Jacobus #1 was released in 1995 by Image Comics, emerging during a period when the publisher was actively expanding its catalog beyond its foundational superhero titles. Created by writer and artist Mike Allred, the series reflects his distinctively retro-modern aesthetic, blending mid-century pop sensibilities with surrealist storytelling. The comic serves as a quirky, imaginative departure from the grim-and-gritty trends that dominated much of the mainstream independent market at the time.

The series centers on the titular character, a young protagonist whose adventures capture Allred's interest in space-age motifs and offbeat science fiction. Designed to be both visually striking and narratively distinct, the book showcased Allred’s signature thick-line art style and vibrant color palettes. While it remains a niche entry in the expansive Image library, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of the creator’s work as a quintessential example of his early independent vision and creative versatility.
