Eerie #133

Eerie #133 was published in July 1982 by Warren Publishing, a company instrumental in popularizing horror comics during the 1960s and 1970s. By the early 1980s, the magazine was navigating the final chapters of its history as the industry shifted away from the black-and-white magazine format that had bypassed the strictures of the Comics Code Authority for years. This issue represents the late-era output of a publication that originally launched in 1966 to challenge the dominance of mainstream superhero comics.

The cover art for this issue features work by the notable illustrator Sanjulián, whose lush, painterly style defined much of the visual aesthetic for Warren’s titles during this period. The issue contains a mix of atmospheric, dark fantasy short stories, characteristic of the editorial direction championed by founders like James Warren. While the magazine eventually ceased publication later that year, these late issues are valued by collectors for maintaining the high-quality illustrative standards that established Warren as a significant entity in comic book history.
